Acting Deceptively: Providing Robots with the Capacity for Deception
نویسندگان
چکیده
Deception is utilized by a variety of intelligent systems ranging from insects to human beings. It has been argued that the use of deception is an indicator of theory of mind [2] and of social intelligence [4]. We use interdependence theory and game theory to explore the phenomena of deception from the perspective of robotics, and to develop an algorithm which allows an artificially intelligent system to determine if deception is warranted in a social situation. Using techniques introduced in [1], we present an algorithm that bases a robot’s deceptive action selection on its model of the individual it’s attempting to deceive. Simulation and robot experiments using these algorithms which investigate the nature of deception itself are discussed.

Robust Trajectory Free Model Predictive Control of Biped Robots with Adaptive Gait Length
This paper employs nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO) for robust trajectory-free Nonlinear Model Predictive Control (NMPC) of biped robots. The NDO is used to reject the additive disturbances caused by parameter uncertainties, unmodeled dynamics, joints friction, and external slow-varying forces acting on the biped robots. In contrary to the slow-varying disturbances, handling sudden pushing ...
متن کاملWhen deception becomes easy: the effects of task switching and goal neglect on the truth proportion effect
Lying is typically more cognitively demanding than truth telling. Yet, recent cognitive models of lying propose that lying can be just as easy as truth telling, depending on contextual factors. In line with this idea, research has shown that the cognitive cost of deception decreases when people frequently respond deceptively, while it increases when people rarely respond deceptively (i.e., the ...
متن کاملDynamics of Space Free-Flying Robots with Flexible Appendages
A Space Free-Flying Robot (SFFR) includes an actuated base equipped with one or more manipulators to perform on-orbit missions. Distinct from fixed-based manipulators, the spacecraft (base) of a SFFR responds to dynamic reaction forces due to manipulator motions. In order to control such a system, it is essential to consider the dynamic coupling between the manipulators and the base. Explicit d...
متن کاملOptimal Trajectory of Flexible Manipulator with Maximum Load Carrying Capacity
In this paper, a new formulation along with numerical solution for the problem of finding a point-to-point trajectory with maximum load carrying capacities for flexible manipulators is proposed. For rigid manipulators, the major limiting factor in determining the Dynamic Load Carrying Capacity (DLCC) is the joint actuator capacity. The flexibility exhibited by light weight robots or by robots o...
متن کاملNew Heuristic Algorithm for Flow Shop Scheduling with 3 Machines and 2 Robots Considering the Breakdown Interval of Machines and Robots Simultaneously
Scheduling is an important subject of production and operations management area. In flow-shop scheduling, the objective is to obtain a sequence of jobs which when processed in a fixed order of machines, will optimize some well defined criteria. The concept of transportation time is very important in scheduling. Transportation can be done by robots. In situations that robots are used to transpor...
